Gîn Bali ist eine multidimensionale Künstlerin, Produzentin, DJ und Community-Organisatorin bei YAYA collective – einer Non-Profit-Organisation mit dem Anspruch, Räume zu schaffen, die von der Gemeinschaft und für die Gemeinschaft sind. Je nachdem, wie man es ausspricht, ändert sich die Bedeutung von „Gîn“: Gîn ist ein aus rauchlosem Feuer geformtes Wesen, das über den Geist gebietet. Im Kurdischen bedeutet es ‚Frau‘, aber Gîn ist auch die Hälfte ihres bürgerlichen Namens. „Bal“ bedeutet währenddessen so etwas wie Aufmerksamkeit erregen. Zugleich ist es der Mädchenname ihrer Großmutter.
Gîns Sounds sind vor allem von ihrer klassischen Ausbildung als Gitarristin beeinflusst. Sie ist mit RnB, HipHop und Rockmusik aufgewachsen und hat in einer Welt gelebt, in die dieselben nicht wirklich gehören. Als DJ spiegelt Gîn in ihren Sets stets ihre eigenen Erfahrungen und Sichtweisen wider. Gîn fühlt sich geschlechtsunabhängig und liebt es, genreunabhängig zu spielen. Gîn Bali is a multidimensional artist, producer, DJ and community organizer at YAYA collective – a non-profit organisation with the demand to create spaces that are from the community and for the community. Depending on how you pronounce it, the meaning of “Gîn” changes: Gîn is a creature formed from smokelessfire that commands over the mind. It means ‘woman’ in Kurdish, but Gîn is also half of the civic name. In Kurdish “Bal” means something like attracting attention, while it is also the maiden name of her grandmother.
Gîn’s sounds are mainly influenced by her classical education as a guitarist, growing up with RnB, HipHop and Rock music and living in a world they might not really belong to. As a DJ, Gîn always recreates their own reflection about her experiences and points of views in a set. Gîn feels genderunbound and loves to play genreunbound. Be ready for a union of genres like Southamerican Techno, Bass, Experimental, Jungle, Deconstructed Club, Moombathon and Kurdish electronics!
